Bite Somebody, you know you want to...see it #CoverReveal

I am a fan, superfan really, or the even more impressively capped SuperFan, of paranormal romances. I write them, I read them, I talk about them. So when I was offered the chance to be a part of the cover reveal team for Bite Somebody, Sara Dobie Bauer’s new paranormal romance novel, I was suddenly very, very…thirsty. Thirsty enough to…Bite Somebody (come on, I HAD to do it, that is the Best. Title. Ever.)

Oh, there’s more. Here’s the tag line on SDB’s website“Immortality is just living longer with more embarrassment.”

I know I know. Even better. I cannot wait to meet Celia, the star of Bite Somebody. The book doesn’t come out until June 21st but you don’t have to wait that long to see the cover, you lucky ducks.

*drum roll* Wheee!

I absolutely LOVE this cover, reminds me of a chick-lit Lucille Ball or Carrie Bradshaw who happens to be a newly turned vampire trying to keep it all together while sipping her blood martini and looking fabulous. Here’s a taste of the book:

“Do you want to be perfect?”

That’s what Danny asked Celia the night he turned her into a vampire. Three months have passed since, and immortality didn’t transform her into the glamorous, sexy vamp she was expecting, but left her awkward, lonely, and working at a Florida gas station. On top of that, she’s a giant screw-up of an immortal, because the only blood she consumes is from illegally obtained hospital blood bags. What she needs to do—according to her moody vampire friend Imogene—is just … bite somebody. But Celia wants her first bite to be special, and she has yet to meet Mr. Right Bite.

Then, Ian moves in next door. His scent creeps through her kitchen wall and makes her nose tingle, but insecure Celia can’t bring herself to meet the guy face-to-face. When she finally gets a look at Ian’s cyclist physique, curly black hair, and sun-kissed skin, other parts of Celia tingle, as well. Could he be the first bite she’s been waiting for to complete her vampire transformation? His kisses certainly have a way of making her fangs throb. Just when Celia starts to believe Ian may be the fairy tale ending she always wanted, her jerk of a creator returns to town, which spells nothing but trouble for everyone involved.

Bite Somebody will be available in trade paperback and ebook via Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com, World Weaver Press, and other online retailers, and for wholesale through Ingram.

Mmmm, cowboys

YEEHAW!

The ROUGH EDGES cover is here and it is scrumptious.

I’m super excited that my story, Coming Up Roses, is one of the seven cowboy romances chosen for the Rough Edges anthology put together by the delightful Cori Vidae of Pen & Kink Publishing. I’ve gotten a sneak peek (official launch is June 14th) and the book is fantastic and diverse. I'm a sucker for cowboys and loved these stories. Sweet to scorching hot, funny to poignant, contemporary to Old West. What a treat to be alongside these talented authors.

For this month only there’s a giveaway on Goodreads. To get in on that free book action NOW go here  Goodreads giveaway and you can add Rough Edges to your shelves there, too.

In Coming Up Roses an angry donkey is the catalyst that brings healer Rose and ranch owner Finn together after eight years apart.  It’s a sweet romance (I know, shocker right? Given the rating of four flames that my book, SKYE FALLING,  received at AllRomanceebooks.com. Insert shameless book promotion  here,) that I hope readers will enjoy.

Rough Edges comes out in June. Until then I leave you with this image of Tank the angry donkey to keep you smiling. Omg look at those ears! You're welcome.

Into every life a little crap must fall.

So you're walking around, smiling, thinking life is going pretty darn well, great even. Then thunder booms and down it comes, flowing in ever larger waves crashing toward you. Sometimes you see it coming and prepare complex evasive maneuvers, sometimes your first inkling is a face plant into it.

I'm talking about crap. Crap in the metaphorical and symbolic sense, like Longfellow did with rain in his poem The Rainy Day. Let's call it The Crappy Day.

Into every life a little crap must fall. Unavoidable fact of being alive.  If you are a human being, at periodic intervals throughout your life you shall be mired in family crap, work crap, dating crap, money crap, etc.  If you're lucky it could be just a light dusting of poop like the dog vomited up a green mess of bile and chunks of stick all over the new rug (symbolic dog crap) or your car didn't start this morning (car crap). Or it could be a metric ton droppage from the clear blue sky that buries your car with you inside it.

(This reminds of the joke about the painting “Brown Spots on the Wall” by Hu Flung Pu, which made me laugh so hard when I was a kid that I may or may not have peed my pants. Still makes me smile today).

Yet I wasn’t smiling last month when a blizzard of bullshit flew in from multiple fronts.  A veritable tornado of turds. *scribbles on a napkin to trademark that bad boy. Mine. MINE.*

It began from the south. I zigged but still got hit. Then a westerly gale of brown goo roared in out of NOWHERE and knocked me down, followed up by one-two judo poop kick that hurled me into a sewage ditch Ugh, the symbolism is grossing me out here a little. Anyhow, is this sounding familiar to anyone out there? *taps mic* A perfect storm of unrelated dominoes all falling at the same time. It's uncommon but it happens to us all. At some time or another you’ve crawled your way out from an enormous mound of manure into the sunshine.

Remember, into every life a little crap must fall. No one escapes an occasional poop storm. What’s your umbrella or supershitshovel?

Here’s what I did.
Phase 1 (also known simply as Adele) I hid.
Hey, don’t judge me. It was a blizzard of bullshit from multiple dung directions. Hiding worked, allowing me to wallow in my misery and indignation but that got lonely. Was it unproductive? Yes. Was it necessary? Also yes.

Onto phase 2, seeking commiseration and/or validation LISTEN CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS CRAP BEING HEAVED AT ME?  Those outside perspectives led directly to phase 3, which is regroup, reassess, devise a plan.

Phase 4 (today also known as DNCE's Cake By The Ocean but you may substitute Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars or Sing by Ed Sheeran) was find my center, grab my supershitshovel and tunnel out.

So now I see the sun again. The blizzard is over, headed out east, I think, as our blizzards generally do (heads up East Coast, something stinky this way comes). The dung heaps left behind are now in manageable piles and soon will be worm rich compost for my garden. It's the best I can do, since it's not like I was buried under lemons or anything. I'm not Pollyanna or Mary Freaking Poppins.

Decisions have been made (good ones, I think), plans are in motion (plans I'm happy with), and I'm steadily advancing toward my goals again, although by a slightly different course, having survived the 2016 blizzard of bullshit. I’ll keep my shovel nearby for when Hu Flung Pu makes another appearance. Oh, and I've got spares if you should need one.

YOU CAN’T BEAT US, PU

2015: From squealy to terrifying - a newbie author's year

Welcome, 2016.

This New Year’s Day I’m not gleefully kicking the prior year to the curb. 2014 was a dick but 2015 was more like your emotional, somewhat unstable friend that drags you into giddy highs and crushing lows.  You know, the one you sometimes think could be helped with some meds.

EXCITING:                          It was a big year for me, starting with a brand new job in January 2015. My very first 15 mile drive to work was through a snow storm followed by Mr. Polar Vortex. Remember that guy? That guy was 20 below zero ACTUAL TEMPERATURE, like we were living in the freaking North Pole. GTFO.

HEARTBREAKING:            I also lost my beloved Tink, the sweetest, gentlest dog I’ve ever met.

SUPER SQUEALY:              I experienced the heady joy of signing my first publishing contract with World Weaver Press imprint Red Moon Romance in January.  Holy crap talk about giddy!

REALITY CHECK #1:                        Spring of 2015 was all about the business of getting SKYE FALLING ready for publication. I lucked out with an awesome editor (shout out to Cori!) who guided me to make the book the shiniest it could be. *bows down to o mighty editor* There were editorial letters, suggested revisions, deadlines, rewrites,  cover copy, bio, line edits, more deadlines and edits and Track Changes. Gotta be honest, it was overwhelming at times but still super-exciting.

OMG-PINCH-ME EXCITING:        Summer of 2015 SKYE FALLING debuts – with that gorgeous purple cover – and people like Lake and Skye’s story! The reviews are good! *squeals and dances* I’M AN AUTHOR, GUYS!

REALITY CHECK #2:                        Very little time to bask in the glow because now it’s onto getting the word out by guest posting/doing interviews on different blogs. That’s also the business of writing. I wanted to be amusing, original, and entertaining on each site. I hope I succeeded.  Also at this time I’m starting the process all over again with the second novel of the series, OMEGA RISING, to be published this spring.

TERRIFYING:                                     This past summer also started a scary five months of chemotherapy for my sister which she handled like a goddamn rock star.  Seriously, like one sick day used. The surgery in December went great with the magical words of “clean margins” and “no lymph node involvement” making Christmas extra special.

REALITY CHECK #3:                        My sister is a superhero. Seriously. ONE sick day!

EXHILARATING/EXHAUSTING:      Deadlines galore this fall. From mid-October to mid-December I ran around like a horde of bees (flock? herd? Idk) was chasing me, stingers at the ready. NaNoWriMo, day job, revisions on my cowboy romance short story (which very nearly kicked my ass), final edits on OMEGA RISING.  Yeah, I lived on caffeine and stress for a couple months but I got through it.

I’ve rested and recharged these last two weeks. It’s been glorious. And essential.

Welcome 2016
OMEGA RISING comes out this spring
COMING UP ROSES short story will be out this year in a cowboy romance anthology
Book 3 of the Wolf King series will be finished this year
THE FOURTH LAND OF SOULS, my urban fantasy, might be ready this year’s end

Now where's my Scotch?
